Premier League data dive: Liverpool lose again at Anfield as Manchester City match Arsenal record

Liverpool were stunned by Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield as they lost for the second home Premier League game in a row, while Manchester City stretched their winning streak at Burnley.

Having seen their 68-game unbeaten home league run ended by Burnley two weeks ago, the champions again came unstuck against an improving Brighton side.

Liverpool s next opponents are leaders City, who had less trouble seeing off Burnley as they made it 13 victories in a row in all competitions the longest such run by a Premier League side since Arsenal between March and August 2002 (also 13).

There were also victories for Leicester City, Everton and West Ham on Wednesday, overcoming Fulham, Leeds United and Aston Villa respectively.

Here is the pick of the Opta facts…

On this day in sport: Atletico stun Barcelona, a Fenway Park first

Despite an incredible comeback against Liverpool to book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals, 2019-20 was looking like far from a vintage season for Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone s side sat sixth in LaLiga when the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of most sport around the world and had suffered a humiliating Copa del Rey exit to third-tier Cultural Leonesa in January.

However, six years ago they took a significant step in one of the most memorable campaigns in their history.

We look back at that and other standout sporting moments that occurred on April 9 through the years.

It may not quite have been finished yet, but Fenway Park opened its doors for the first time for an exhibiti…

He also had a brief stint at Chester City in 2008 and arrives at Anderlecht on Kompany s recommendation.

When Vinny asked me to make the move with him to RSC Anderlecht, I didn t doubt [him], Davies said.

Inter Miami interested in former Barcelona winger

Inter Miami are getting ready to make their Major League Soccer debut on 29 February, when they will start their first ever season in professional football. For that, they have to prepare a whole squad and they are still in the process of signing new players. After being linked with numerous stars from European clubs, including Edinson Cavani, it looks like Inter Miami could be buying in La Liga.

According to Estadio Deportivo, the Florida-based franchise is interested in signing Real Betis winger Cristian Tello before the start of the season. The reports are suggesting Inter Miami and Betis are in advanced negotiations for the 28-year-old player, although it is also said that Celta and Getafe are interested in the player as well.

The Premier League managers that are already fighting to keep hold of their jobs

While the 2024/25 campaign might have only got underway last month, some bosses from up and down to county already find some mounting pressure on their shoulders.

With England’s elite making their return this weekend following on from September’s international break, a handful of Premier League clubs are seeking a much-needed early boost.

Although we might only be three games into the new campaign, we have taken a look at the three Premier League bosses that are already fighting to keep hold of their respective jobs.

Erik ten Hag Manchester United

While Manchester United might have shockingly made the decision to stick with over the summer, the former Ajax boss already has a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders at Old Trafford.

Although the Re…

Stefano Pioli is planning to make changes to his line-up as Milan look to continue their magnificent recent form against Lille.

Building on their momentum from the end of the 2019-20 season, Milan unbeaten in 24 matches across all competitions have made a spectacular start to the new campaign.

Who are the 3 favourites to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid?

While might have managed to salvage what was the most dramatic of points away at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday night, it does not cover a string of issues behind the scenes at the Bernabéu.

Including opening their European adventure with a stunning 3-2 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk, Madrid also saw their unbeaten run come to a shock end against La Liga returners Cadiz.

Although a win away at Barcelona in last weekend s El Clásico might have managed to buy Zinedine Zidane some time in the Spanish capital, many feel that the French icon is on the verge of being given the boot by the Madrid hierarchy for a second time.

With another change in the Bernabéu dugout expected sooner rather than later, who are the three leading candidates with the bookies to…

Abraham absence not to blame for defeat – Lampard

Frank Lampard wants to see  a bit of character as his side aim to bounce back from a 1-0 home defeat to West Ham, while he refused to blame Tammy Abraham s injury for the result.

Abraham missed the game after suffering a hip injury in Chelsea s 2-2 draw with Valencia on Wednesday, and Olivier Giroud took his place in the starting line-up against West Ham.

Lampard also dropped N Golo Kante to the bench and watched as West Ham exploited large gaps in the midfield to pick up their first win in eight Premier League matches.

Chelsea will face Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in midweek before travelling to Goodison Park to play Everton on Saturday, and Lampard indicated he would not make knee-jerk reactions to his side s second home defeat of the league season.

Marine v Tottenham: Kane out to avoid another non-league nightmare

Sunday s FA Cup encounter between Marine and Tottenham is the kind of clash that really captures the imaginations of supporters, as non-league meets Premier League.

Ordinarily such an occasion would mean a potentially vital cash influx for the smaller side, with match tickets selling out quicker than ever and TV crews descending on a modest ground in their droves.

While it won t be quite the same this time given the coronavirus pandemic, it still promises to be a special day for Marine, who have sold over 5,000 virtual tickets.

Playing in the Northern Premier League Division One North West, the eighth tier of the English football pyramid, Liverpool-based Marine will host a Spurs team that is used to competing in the Champions League.

It represents a whole…
