Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola lauded the innovation of opposite number Rudi Garcia, ahead of their clash with Roma on Tuesday.

Garcia has been in charge of the Serie A capital club since 2013, having spent the remainder of his playing and coaching career in France.

Roma finished second in the Italian top flight in Garcia s first season in charge at the Stadio Olimpico, their first top-two appearance since finishing runners-up four times from 2005 to 2010.

Guardiola, lauded for his style at Barcelona and now Bayern, said Garcia had Roma playing attractive football, and deserved to be recognised as a successful foreigner in Italy.

Barcelona are primed to book a Champions League quarter-finals place as they take a 3-1 lead into the second leg against Bayer Leverkusen.

La Liga giants Barca, the reigning European champions, are aiming to reach the last eight of the competition for the fifth consecutive season, and have the luxury of taking a two-goal advantage into the return leg of their round-of-16 clash at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola s men have been inconsistent in the league this campaign, falling 10 points adrift of rivals Real Madrid.

Their 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon on Saturday came without Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, who missed the match through suspension.

Barca have an imposing record in European home matches, unbeaten in their last 13 including 11 wins dati…

The pressure was there – Klopp relieved to pick up much-needed win

Jurgen Klopp acknowledged Liverpool s 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town was a big relief as his side returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday.

After last Sunday s harrowing 4-1 loss to Tottenham at Wembley left them with just one win in their last six league outings, Liverpool were under pressure to produce a response in front of their own fans at Anfield.

The hosts laboured against resolute opponents in the first half, albeit they missed a glorious chance to go ahead before the interval when Mohamed Salah saw his penalty saved by Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

However, Klopp s demand for his players to be more positive paid off after the break, Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum all finding the net to secure three much…

Tuchel has sympathy for Abraham as Chelsea striker linked with Arsenal and Roma

Tammy Abraham could be involved for Chelsea in the Super Cup on Wednesday, but Thomas Tuchel has revealed how the striker s future is constantly evaluated amid links with a move elsewhere.

After scoring 15 Premier League goals for the Blues in the 2020-21 season when Frank Lampard was in charge, Abraham saw his opportunities diminish under Tuchel last term.

The 23-year-old started only three league fixtures following the appointment of Tuchel in late January, while he did not feature at all in the knockout stages of the Champions League as Chelsea went on to lift the trophy in Porto.

His lack of minutes has led to speculation of a switch away from Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes, with Jose Mourinho s Roma reportedly interested. There have bee…

Ranieri: Drinkwater to United rumours good for Leicester

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri says rumours linking Danny Drinkwater with a return to Manchester United serve as good news for the club.

The 26-year-old, who progressed through the youth ranks at Old Trafford, failed to make a senior appearance before joining Leicester in 2012 following loan spells with Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City, Watford and Barnsley.

Drinkwater was a driving force behind Leicester s shock Premier League title triumph last term and earned a first call-up to the England squad in March as a result of his consistent form.

The midfielder has this week been linked with a possible move back to United in January, with Jose Mourinho reported to be keen to deploy him alongside world-record signing Paul Pogba at the heart of his midfield.

Vardy sets Premier League record with Man City goal

Jamie Vardy claimed another Premier League record with a goal against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Vardy capitalised on a mistake from Nicolas Otamendi to run through and thump a low shot out of Ederson s reach to cancel out Raheem Sterling s third-minute opener.

And the goal means the Foxes forward has struck against all of the Big Six Premier League sides this season netting in matches with City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Vardy has struck in four consecutive Premier League matches but he remains some way short of the 11 straight games in which he found the net during Leicester s stunning 2015-16 title triumph.
